MPPs Mark Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Bruce-Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker rallied his peers to mark Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

Two years ago, Walker's resolution to recognize September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month was unanimously approved at Queen's Park.

All members are all wearing a gold ribbon pin to express support for children and families affected by the hardship of life threatening illnesses.

Walker says cancer is the second leading cause of death among youngsters in Canada.  The lingering effects of diagnosis, treatment, and recovery can last a lifetime, a battle, Walker says, that should not be fought alone.

One in 330 children will be diagnosed with some form of cancer by the time they are 20 years old.

MPP Walker says one way everyone can help is by donating blood, as he did in Owen Sound last Wednesday.
