Driving On Closed Road Leads To Two In Owen Sound

Owen Sound police responded to two separate vehicle collisions Monday night on a section of road that had been closed due to construction.

Two drivers disregarded the road closure signs leading to the 2000-block of 8th St. E, which was only open to local traffic.

The first collision occurred around 8:30pm, with the impact to the Saturn setting the vehicle airbags off. The 56-year-old female driver was taken to the Grey Bruce Health Service by ambulance where she was treated and later released.

The second collision occurred around 11:15pm when an 89-year-old man drove his Chev Equinox into a large pile of gravel. He was not injured.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage.  Both drivers were charged under the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act.

According to the Owen Sound Police Service, disregarding road closure signs could result in a $110 fine, but as these two drivers experienced, it could result in a very expensive repair bill.
