Building The IPM Tent City Near Walton

One of the co-ordinators of the International Plowing Match's tented city says they're very pleased with how it's coming together.

Jeff McGavin says anyone driving by the site near Walton will notice most of the big tents are up now and it's just a matter of filling in with the smaller tents. There will be close to 200 tents up when it's finished.

As for field conditions, neighbours of the site have adjacent fields all ready for the plowing competitions.

“It's been great and you know, even when we have had some rain the land here is very suitable, it's draining away real great, kind of a gravel base to it so it seems to be we don't even see the water, it's gone by mid-morning here, so we're pretty pleased with that,” says McGavin.

McGavin says the weather has co-operated and the soil is excellent.

Organizers hope to have power to the IPM site in Walton connected by mid-September.

The International Plowing Match runs September 19 to 23.
