Arson Charges Laid In Owen Sound

The Owen Sound Police Service has made an arrest in connection with a series of small fires in the downtown area last Friday.

Between 1:30am and 6:30am Friday morning, five fires were set around Owen Sound, with four fires being set in the 2nd Ave. E area. There were no injuries, and the fires were quickly put out.

Monday afternoon, police arrested a 42-year-old man, who is now charged with two counts of arson with disregard for human life, three counts of arson causing property damage, and one count of possession of incendiary material.

During the investigation, police uncovered other criminal activity, and laid additional charges of theft under $5,000, break, enter and theft, mischief under $5,000, and possession of property obtained by crime.

The accused was held in custody and appears in court today for a bail hearing.

The Owen Sound Police Service would still like to speak with the man and woman who may have witnessed the arson on 3rd Ave. ‘A’ E on Friday.
