Huron County Board Of Health Completes Smoking By-Law Review

Huron County's Board of Health has completed its review of a proposed smoking bylaw for county-owned property.

Health Board Chair Tyler Hessel says the one change the board made was to exclude e-cigarettes because it was felt there wasn't enough scientific evidence to conclude they constituted a health risk. Hessel says the proposed bylaw would prohibit smoking on any county-owned property, with a few exceptions like the long-term care facilities and areas that had been designated a smoking area.

Hessel explains the bylaw prohibits the smoking of anything that is burnable in anticipation of the passing of Federal legislation that will make marijuana legal. The bylaw will now go back to county council for final approval.
