Women's House Gets Provincial Funding For Building Repairs

The Women's House Serving Bruce and Grey is receiving provincial funding to help repair its Kincardine facility.

Minister of Community and Social Services Dr. Helena Jaczek announced the province is committing $125,000 to the women's house to fix the sinking foundation of one of its buildings.

In total, Jaczek says the province is providing nearly $700,000 to eight agencies in Bruce, Grey and Huron through the Partner Facility Renewal program.

Jaczek says it's a worthwhile investment for the province because it helps ensure non-profit agencies can afford to keep their services in place when infrastructure challenges present themselves.

Interim Executive Director of Women's House Serving Bruce and Grey Lisa Owen says there's little doubt they would have had to cut services in order to be able to pay the bill for the foundation repair.

"This money is critical for us, because without it, we'd be looking at having to utilize an entire year's worth of fundraised dollars to do those repairs," says Owen. "In doing that, we would have a direct impact on service delivery because what we do with our fundraised dollars typically is supplement the ministry funding in order to meet the demands in the community."

The province also announced $32,300 for the Chippewas of Nawash for heating and ventilation repairs, $46,200 for Community Living Hanover and Area for a sprinkler system installation and $393,400 for Participation Lodge Grey-Bruce in Holland Centre brickwork and facade replacement.
