Minto Mayor Updates Flooding Situation In Harriston

Minto Mayor George Bridge says clean-up efforts are moving along in Harriston.

Bridge says that damage is starting to be assessed, and a boil water advisory remains in effect.

"We're really in clean-up mode now," he says. "Everybody's working on their basements. The water advisory is still on. We had a good first test, and we're waiting for the second test that we did this morning. We're hoping we can have that lifted by tomorrow at the latest."

Mayor Bridge says the dumps are open for people to dispose of damaged items, and forms for emergency relief funding are being distributed to people who may not be covered by their insurance. He also says the municipality is assessing its property.

"Our adjuster is out there for our own municipal adjustments, and we're looking at all the bridges and culverts, and we're getting some assessments on different ones to make sure they're safe," he says. "Everything is open at this point, but we do have some smaller roads that are closed yet because we haven't put new gravel in."

Bridge also notes that the local baseball diamonds are damaged. He says the municipality hopes to have a total damage report for municipal and private properties in the next few days so they can begin applying for emergency relief funding where necessary.
