Bruce Peninsula Celebrates Safe Communities Designation

The Bruce Peninsula is the 68th community in Canada to achieve the "Safe Communities" designation with Parachute Canada.

The Bruce Peninsula Safe Communities Committee has been working since the spring of 2014 to meet the requirements of a designated community.

To date, the committee has offered initiatives that have focused on promoting safe driving; bicycle safety rodeos at all of the Peninsula schools; water safety initiatives; and offering baby-sitting safety courses.

A celebration to mark the designation of Bruce Peninsula as a Safe Community is set for 1pm on Wednesday, June 14 at the Ferndale OPP satellite detachment.

Representatives from Parachute Canada, the OPP and the Bruce Peninsula Safe Communities Committee will be in there, along with Bruce-Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker, South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Janice Jackson and Northern Bruce Peninsula Mayor Milt McIvor.

To recognize this designation, a special Safe Communities key and certificate will be presented to the committee.
