Life-Saving Reunion In Owen Sound

There was an emotional reunion in Owen Sound Wednesday for a wife of a man whose life was saved by Grey County emergency services and a passerby.

Dorothy Vernon was at the Paramedic Services Week Second Chance Reunion luncheon in Owen Sound on Wednesday.

Dorothy's 84-year-old husband Bill Vernon collapsed in a snowbank in Thornbury in February.  First on the scene was good samaritan Patrick Egan and police officer Kevin Cornell.

Bill had no pulse so those on scene gave him CPR and defibrillation until paramedics arrived to take him to hospital.

Dorothy says it was great to meet them at the reunion.

"I said I'm not shaking their hands, I hugged every one of them. They're just terrific and they were so nice too you know. Just wonderful. I can't say enough about them," says Dorothy.

Egan says the whole thing has been an emotional experience.

"Dorothy called me briefly after he was recovering and I got choked up, and shortly thereafter I gave him a ring and he said thank you so much... I just said the biggest thanks is hearing your voice. I gotta admit, I teared up," says Egan.

Bill wasn't able to make the reunion in Owen Sound, but Dorothy says he's doing well.
