Minto Agrees To Bulk Water Sale

Despite the objection of two councillors, Minto council has voted to proceed with negotiations for the sale of bulk water from its Palmerston wells.

Bright’s Water Service wants the water for uses such as pool filling, dust suppression and watermain flushing in the Kitchener-Waterloo area.  The sale is expected to generate $10,000 or more in revenue for Minto per year.

Minto councillors Jean Anderson and Mary-Lou Colwell opposed the sale, saying water is too precious a commodity to be selling.

But Mayor George Bridge says the Palmerston water wells have plenty of capacity to handle the sale, particularly since the installation of water meters has reduced water usage in Palmerston by more than 100,000 cubic meters a year.
