Meaford Hall Balcony Reno Complete

Audiences attending performances at Meaford Hall will be able to enjoy more comfortable seating in the theatre’s balcony section.

Mayor Barb Clumpus, her council and members of the Meaford Hall and Culture Foundation’s board recently took part in a special re-opening ceremony in the balcony of the Opera House.

During the renovation of Meaford Hall, the Foundation was able to replace about 90 of the original chairs with new ones.   The original seats were installed in 1908 during the construction of the Opera House.

In July 2016, Meaford received word it would be receiving a grant for $205 thousand from Canadian Heritage for the balcony renovation project.

Meaford council contributed $60 thousand from its 2017 budget toward the project. This left $145 thousand which the Meaford Hall and Culture Foundation pledged to raise.

The renovated balcony now contains 96 seats, for a total seating of 336 in the Opera House.
