Growth In Meaford Continues

The idea of building a home - instead of looking for one to buy - may be catching on.  At least the latest report from Meaford’s chief building officer suggests this could be the case.

Meaford council officially received Rick Carefoot’s building report for March this week, as well as the first three months of this year.

Carefoot’s report shows Meaford’s building department issued 33 permits last month.  That was more than twice the 16 permits issued in March of last year.

Among the 33 permits issued, two were for detached homes and three for new multi-residential units.

The total value of the permits for the detached homes was $750,000. The total value of the permits for the three multi-residential units was slightly above $1-million.

During the first three months of this year, Meaford’s building department issued 49 permits of all types, such as renovations, sewer connections and demolition. This compares with the 24 permits issued during the first quarter of 2016.

The total value of all permits issued during the first quarter of this year was $3.6-million.
