Open House To Be Held At Food Bank Distribution Centre In Centralia

The Huron County Food Banks Distribution Centre in Centralia is hosting an open house this Saturday morning.

Executive Director Mary Ellen Zielman says they want to show off their new walk-in freezer. Funding from the Trillium Foundation allowed them to get the walk-in freezer which replaces the five chest freezers they had been working with.

Zielman says the walk-in freezer will allow them to load skids of frozen food into the freezer, and there's enough room to accommodate a trailer-load of food.

She adds the demand for the services of the food banks continues to increase as more and more families, some with two working adults are still not able to feed themselves for a month.

In one case, a senior who lived alone and was struggling to make ends meet had cut back to one meal a day to get to the end of the month.

The open house will be held at the Huron County Food Bank's Distribution Centre on Hwy. 4 in Centralia on Saturday, April 29. Representatives from the Trillium Foundation will join Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson as well as other invited guest for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11am.
