Meaford's Best Honoured At Dinner And Awards Night

The three owners of 365 Sports are the winners of Meaford Chamber of Commerce’s Tourism Award for 2016.

The trio won the award by erecting a huge waterslide in downtown Meaford last July.  The slide attracted thousands of visitors to Meaford.

About 120 Meaford Chamber members, Rotarians and guests attended the Awards Night Saturday at the Meaford and St. Vincent Community Centre.

The owner and staff of McGinty’s Café were honoured with the Customer Service Award.

The Most Improved Business Award for 2016 went to The Leeky Canoe restaurant.

The owners of Third Line Homes, Paul and Mary-Jo Osburn, won the Business Owner of the Year Award.

Grandma Lambe’s received the Agribusiness Award for the high quality apples they grow in their orchard, the various foods they serve in their store.

Meaford’s second annual Farmer of the Year Award went to Larry and Heather Parkin. The Parkins won this award for their outstanding accomplishments in agriculture.

The winner of the Special Merit Award for 2016 is local musician and music entertainment director Chris Scarri.

Wayne Kipp was the winner of the Peter Francis Memorial Award.

"The recipient of this award," said the judges, "is a lifelong Rotarian who has contributed his talents as president of the club for three terms."

During that time, Kipp supported many initiatives including the building of the Rotary Pavilion, the club’s Rotary Exchange Programs and various fundraising drives.

A longtime Meaford resident who counts among her many volunteer jobs teaching physically challenged young people to ski and ride a horse is Meaford Rotary Club’s Citizen of the Year for 2016.

Mary Solomon was honoured at the Meaford Chamber of Commerce Community Awards Dinner and Presentation.

Meaford Rotary’s Youth Citizen of the Year Award for 2016 to Aidan McDairmid.

The student at Georgian Bay Community School manages the audio and video technologies at school productions, assemblies, concerts, coffee houses and other events. He also teaches younger students on how to handle audio and video equipment.
