Coalition For Huron Injury Prevention Addresses High Hospitalization Rate

Huron County drivers have one of the highest hospitalization rates in the province from vehicle collisions.

A forum in Holmesville Thursday, hosted by the Coalition for Huron Injury Prevention, will attempt to address some of the reasons for that.

Public Health promoter Laura Edgar says contributing factors are likely the amount of driving Huron County residents do; the number of high-speed highways; and the longer distances to hospitals.

And despite the often dangerous driving conditions in the winter months, their statistics show drivers tend to take more risks in the summer when road conditions are good.

Edgar adds contributing factors for road safety are the three Es: Enforcement, Engineering, and Education - and that's where they look for solutions.

The forum in Holmesville Thursday will bring together people with a wide range of backgrounds to see if some of the problems facing Huron County drivers can be addressed.
