The final stage of renovations at the Wingham and District Hospital have been approved.
The approval means the hospital is set to prepare a day surgery space, a new sterilization department, an oncology and chemotherapy area, as well as a new pharmacy.
The renovation will also allow for new ambulatory care space for patients in Wingham.
Under the formula from the Ministry of Health, the ministry took care of 90% of the bricks-and-mortar cost. The community is to take care of the other 10%.
The capital campaign put together by the Wingham and District Hospital Foundation raised over $4-million for the local share of the renovations; more-than-enough for the local share of those costs.
Wingham & Listowel Hospital Alliance President and CEO Karl Ellis says the renovation has been long awaited, and they're thrilled to be able to get started.
