Contract Awarded For Port Elgin And Southampton Splash Pads

The Town of Saugeen Shores has awarded the construction contract for the Port Elgin and Southampton splash pads.

After the tender closed in December, contractors with the two preferred bids presented submissions to a panel made up of representatives from both splash pad committees, a representative from the Accessibility Committee and members of staff.

The selection group unanimously agreed that ABC Recreation Ltd. is the preferred contractor.

ABC Recreation has installed over 500 splash pads through Ontario and Atlantic Canada.  They've done several local projects, including Kelso Beach Park in Owen Sound, Bluewater Park in Wiarton, and Lewis Park in Ripley.

Ground breaking ceremonies are being planned for both sites.   Official opening ceremonies planned for June 29th in Port Elgin, and July 28 in Southampton.

The Port Elgin Lions Club and the Southampton Rotary Club are well on their way to achieving their respective fundraising goals of $362,000 and $150,000, with both expecting to reach their goal.

"We were incredibly pleased with the design, expertise and experience that ABC Recreation provided," said Jayne Jagelewski, director of community services for the Town of Saugeen Shores. "The individual splash pad designs complement the surrounding landscapes, and will create inclusive and accessible facilities for all ages to enjoy for many years."
