Markdale Moving Forward With Residential Growth

Markdale is getting a major residential development.

Collingwood-based Stonetree Development Corporation has announced it has filed a draft plan application to the Municipality of Grey Highlands and Grey County, with an anticipated approval coming in early May.

The development is located off Margaret Elizabeth Ave., only two blocks away from Markdale’s downtown.

Stonetree spokesman Paul Bonwick says the new homes will provide the perfect place for families to raise their children with close proximity to work and school.   It's also ideal for retirees, providing a short walk to the downtown core as well as the Golf and Curling Club.

"Markdale is about to experience unprecedented growth through a massive investment by Chapman’s Ice Cream that will see between 300 and 500 new jobs for our area in the next few years," says Grey Highlands Mayor Paul McQueen. "This growth is acting as a catalyst for investment in our commercial sector. Couple this economic expansion with the exciting news of our new hospital, and it is clear, Markdale has a very exciting and promising future for our current and future generations."

Council is also looking at a plan for a new Sobeys store which represents a $12-million investment in Markdale.
