Rivalry Between Huron East Fire and Huron OPP Heats Up in Seaforth

A charity hockey game in Seaforth will see the Huron OPP and Huron East fire fighters face-off to raise money for Victim Services Huron County and the Canadian Mental Health Association.

The Huron OPP "Ice Dogs" Elite Squad will take on the Huron East "Smoke Eaters" at the Seaforth Arena at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 25th.

In a release that contained more than a little chirping from both sides, right-winger and Constable Mark Gransden says "if Huron East brings in some of their homegrown NHL talent, then they might have an outside chance at keeping this game close otherwise they might as well go back to shining up their fancy trucks.”

Huron East fire fighter, Marty Bedard countered: "It has been mentioned that O.P.P. stands for 'Occasionally Pass the Puck.' With that strategy in mind, we only have to cover one player at a time."

The event will also feature a ceremonial puck drop by high school teacher Julie Sawchuck. She was paralyzed after being hit by a car while cycling. Kendall Jardin from Belgrave will sing the national anthem. There will also be a silent auction.

Tickets are $5 each and can be picked up at the Victim Services Office inside the Seaforth Arena or by calling 519-600-4108.
