Wellington North Projecting Small Tax Increase In 2017 Budget

Wellington North Mayor Andy Lennox expects the 2017 budget will be approved at the next council meeting February 27.

An open house on the budget attracted just seven residents Tuesday night, and no changes to the budget came out of the meeting.

The budget will generate about $19 extra in property taxes on a home worth about $237,000. That does not include the county or school levies.

The Wellington North proposed budget includes no new borrowing and a $7.5-million capital budget. Meanwhile, Mayor Lennox is taking his message of imminent growth to the community.

This week Lennox will be meeting with three different community groups; including a group of Mount Forest church ministers, the Mount Forest Lion’s Club, and the Wellington North Cultural Round Table to discuss the implications of growth for the future.

Lennox wants to discuss what aspects of the community need safeguarding and how this growth can happen without being disruptive to the community.

Wellington County is projecting a 50% growth over the next 20 to 25 years.
