Digitization Of Local Newspapers Going Well

The digitization of local newspapers Huron County is coming along very well.

The project was started last June and Special Project Co-ordinator Jeremy Dechert says they new have several newspapers available online and they're adding more every day. He does point out it is an on-going process and will take some time to get them all online, but even at this point they've been able to save anyone doing research on Huron County history a great deal of time and effort.

Dechert says before digitization people had to travel to a library and find what they were looking for on microfilm, which was a very daunting task if they didn't know the date of the event they were looking for. They can now do the search from their home and find what they're looking for through a simple word search. Dechert points out the online quality is much better than the old microfilm.

Dechert says papers from the Blyth Standard, Wingham Advocate, Huron Signal from Goderich, Exeter Advocate, Exeter Times, Exeter Times Advocate and the Brussels Post are available online.
