Rural Response For Healthy Children Receives Trillium Grant

Huron County's Rural Response for Healthy Children has received a grant from the Trillium Foundation to help them educate children about sexual and physical abuse prevention strategies.

Executive Director Selena Hazlitt says the grant is for 36-thousand dollars over the next year and will help them update a program they've been offering in schools for several years as a puppet show called the Kids on the Block. She explains it's still being used by many organizations and they continue to use it, but they wanted to see if they could update it a little and use current technology to make it a little more relevant to the students and make the message a little more effective.

Hazlitt says they're gathering informatiion for the new program now and setting an advisory board to determine how to move forward. They're looking at filming a presentation but also possibly incorporating the internet or using the i-Pads that many of the students now have. She says they hope to test the new program this spring and have a full package ready for the start of school next September
