Huron Council Approves Changes To Clean Water Project

Huron County council has approved a recommendation from Planner Susanna Reid to make some changes to the county's Clean Water Project.

The Clean Water Project provides up to fifty per cent funding to farmers and other rural landowners for good stewardship projects on their property. Reid explains the program has been extremely popular but there is only so much funding to go around so she recommends that the funding for specific projects be reduced so the funding is available to more people for more projects. She uses the example of erosion control projects which was capped at 75-hundred dollars now be capped at five-thousand dollars.

Reid points out there are often other sources of funding for projects aside from the Clean Water Project that help to reduce the fifty per cent cost to the landowner. She suggests anyone considering a project call either the Ausable Bayfield or Maitland Valley Conservation Authority.
