Hydro One Blasted During Goderich Public Meeting

About 60 people attended a public meeting in Goderich Thursday, venting their frustration with always-climbing electricity rates.

The meeting was hosted by Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson who explained that Ontario Power Generation generates the power, Hydro One is the largest of several companies that distributes the power, and the Ontario Electricity Board sets the rates.

Lloyd Crawford, a retired businessman now living in Point Clark, suggests the Ontario government establish an average cost among all of the provinces and tell all three of the players in the system they have three years to get to that average.  Cuts that have to be made must be made at the corporate level, and not on the backs of customers.

Another suggestion was that distribution charges for energy should be the same as they are for telephone service -- equal throughout the province.

The Hydro One representatives who attended the meeting commented they are working on that type of model.

Hydro One customer services representative also offered to investigate any complaints or concerns people at the meeting had, and also made the comment that Hydro One realizes it can no longer operate as a monopoly, but has to start operating as it would in a competitive market place.
