No Helipad For Goderich Yet

Goderich council has asked for more time and more information before they rule out the idea of a helipad on land owned by the town north of the Maitland Valley Medical Centre.

CAO Larry McCabe told council Monday night that staff recommended against the helipad for several reasons.

He explained the land is environmentally clean and could be put to better use for something else in the future. He added that a helipad could create problems with neighbours, and while there's no exact figure on the cost, there is also no extra money in the hospital's budget or the town's budget.

McCabe points out nobody foresaw a need for the Maitland Valley Medical Centre years ago, or the recent expansion of that facility, and he believes there may be another hospital-related need in the future.

A motion to table the recommendation until more information was available was approved.
