Listowel Library Renovation Review

North Perth Libraries CEO Rebecca Dechert Sage says the recent review of potential Listowel Branch renovations was simply an assessment of how best to utilize potential funds to upgrade the facility.

"Council has made no commitment to a full renovation at this point, just allowing the board to proceed with investigating how we might improve the facility and make it more efficient, and more up to modern library standards," she says.

Dechert Sage says there were a few specific things that the review identified that would ideally be best to try and improve.

"We are hoping for most of all is safety, security and sight-lines to be improved within the library. The previous renovation did certainly give us much more space, but didn't account for the old building as far as future use," she says. "Our current lift system isn't technically an elevator, so it isn't considered dignified access, which would also be something we would certainly consider upgrading."

As far as how much a potential renovation would affect daily library operation and activities, Dechert Sage says it's still too early to determine that, and the architects would have to be consulted after more planning is done.
