Goderich Council Receives Waterfront Master Plan Draft Report

Goderich councillors got a look at the final draft of the waterfront master plan at Monday night's council meeting.

Consultant Wai Ying Di Giorgio explained that the board walk is the main feature of the beach and it has to be re-surfaced so there are no gaps in it. It also has to be widened to accommodate wheel chairs and strollers.

She told council that many of the features can be done in phases but believes the board walk should be done at the same time, even if the re-surfacing has to be done in stages.

It was also explained that while last night's presentation was the final draft, they are still looking for input into what will be the final product.

Wai Ying De Georgio says another challenge for them was connecting the beach to Square in a way that would subliminally direct people from the Square down to the waterfront. She says directional signs are the most obvious way, but they also suggested a double row of maple trees lining West Street and leading down to the waterfront might be just as effective but not quite as obvious.
