Huron County Plans Meeting With Developers Over Project Delays

Huron County is planning a meeting with staff and developers in an attempt to improve communications between them.

C-A-O Brenda Orchard explains there have been some concerns expressed in the delays in getting complicated projects moving, and the planners are the most visible targets of criticism because they're the ones that have to enforce the rules.

But Orchard says when council asked staff to pick one particular project and examine some of the delays, they found the majority of them came from the developers.   And she suggests part of that could be that they don't always understand the process.

Orchard adds sometimes a project manager can help pave the way, but some developers prefer not to use a project manager.   So what they are planning is a day to have developers meet with municipal C-A-Os, building inspectors, public works officials and local politicians.

Orchard says they would listen to the concerns of developers, look at best practices in other municipalities, and then work on solutions.   The meeting is tentatively being planned for sometime in October.

Orchard points out there is always room for improvement from both county staff and developers.
