Huron East, Central Huron, Bluewater Learn About Shared Services

Councillors from Central Huron, Bluewater and Huron East held a joint meeting Monday night in Clinton to consider the potential for sharing services.

The guest speakers were the C-A-O's of North Huron and Morris-Turnberry. They presented the outline for their recent sharing agreement.

North Huron C-A-O Sharon Chambers explained that one of the first things they looked at was a cost analysis. Once it was determined there were some potential savings, council gave the approval to continue the process.

Chambers also strongly recommended giving staff as much information as early as possible, because the project would not work without staff buying in. She added once staff were told what was being considered, they suggested it should have been considered a long time ago.

Morris-Turnberry C-A-O Nancy Michie stated their goal is to improve service as well as save about 600-thousand dollars by 2018. Michie added they believe most of the staff efficiencies will be achieved through attrition.
