Construction Underway On Cst. Rick Hopkins Bridge In Mount Forest

The rehab of the Rick Hopkins Bridge in Mount Forest is underway.

Wellington North Director of Public Works, Matthew Aston, says it will be a 5 to 6 month job, with the road closure only taking 3 months. He gave details on how the $1.82-million job is being funded.

"There is roughly $800,000 to $900,000 in federal and provincial funding coming in, and the municipality will cover the rest of the cost, including the engineering and inspection costs."

Aston says the asphalt and hand rails will be replaced first, followed by the sidewalks and lights on either side. The underside framework will also be patched up, as well. Aston says based on what the engineers have said, this will give the bridge plenty of life.

"Based on what I've been told, this will give the bridge easily another 20-25 years without more work being needed. This is a great project to get done, as the bridge hasn't had any work done on it in a good while."
