Man Charged After Officer Assaulted

A Grey Highlands man has been charged after an officer was assaulted and taken to hospital.

The Ontario Provincial Police say on Wednesday around 5:26pm, an officer responded to a home on Lorne St. in Markdale after the homeowner reported a man was refusing to leave the residence. The man had reportedly been drinking and was bring verbally abusive toward the homeowner.

An officer arrived at the scene and after a brief conversation, police allege the man suddenly attacked the officer, attempting to grab one of the officer's weapons.  The man was eventually restrained with the assistance of other officers.

The first officer, a 29-year veteran with the OPP, had to be taken to hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. He has since been discharged.

Steven Greck, 31, of Grey Highlands was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries. He has since been released into police custody and is charged with assaulting a peace officer causing bodily harm, assaulting a peace officer and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

He will appear in court on June 23.
