Goderich Students Part Of Emergency Plan Exercise

Students at Goderich District Collegiate Institute got a first-hand look at what first responders do in the event of an emergency.  The event Tuesday was part of the National Emergency Preparedness Week program.

Goderich Community Emergency Management Co-ordinator Janice Hallahan explains their goal was to show the students what each responding agency does in the event of an emergency.

Hallahan adds most communities have an emergency plan are practice it annually, but she says the plan has become a little more realistic in Goderich as a result of the storm in the summer of 1995 and then the tornado in 2011.

The students took part of a photo scavenger hunt and then went through a table-top emergency exercise.

Hallahan adds even for municipalities that go through their plan every year they always learn something new from each exercise, and that usually comes down to communications between the various agencies involved in the operation.
