National Day Of Mourning Held In Owen Sound And Hanover

People a gathered in Hanover to remember those who have been killed or injured on the job.

April 28 is National Day of Mourning. The event in Hanover was organized by the Grey Bruce Labour Council.

Vice president Hazel Pratt-Paige says workplace accidents as well as long term illnesses happen all too often and can be deadly.

"Somewhere today one worker in Ontario and three workers across Canada will die on the job. And that doesn't include injured or occupational diseases that could happen," says Pratt-Paige.

Pratt-Paige says precarious workers and young workers are especially vulnerable to workplace accidents. The Grey Bruce Labour Council also marked the Day of Mourning with ceremonies in Owen Sound and at Bruce Power.
