Clean Water Project Hits Milestone In Huron County

Huron County's Clean Water Project marked a special milestone this week.

The project is funded by the county, and this week it was announced that it has provided grants for more than 2,000 projects over the past ten years that help to protect water in Huron County.

Jim Ginn, chair of the Huron County Water Protection Steering Committee, says the projects can range from things like planting trees and fencing cattle out of streams to well-head protection.

Ginn says all of the projects have some benefit in protecting water quality, but some have less payback for the property owner than others, and without funding some of the more expensive projects like berms or decommissioning manure tanks would be prohibitively expensive.

Ginn adds last year Huron County provided $350,000 to the Clean Water Project and he believes that's money well spent because it's easier to to keep water clean than it is to try and clean it after the fact.
