Goderich Looks Toward Future OMPF Funding

The Town of Goderich has taken a position on Ontario Municipal Partnership Funding that differs from that of Huron County council.

The county is asking to speak to the Minister about cuts in OMPF funding over the last few years.

But CAO Larry McCabe says the position of Goderich is that the cuts had been announced previously and while no one wanted to see it; everyone knew the province was eliminating over $5-million in funding over a period of time.

McCabe says rather than attempt to re-open something the province has no appetite for, they should support the Association of Municipalities' initiative called What's Next Ontario to look towards what funding might come to municipalities in the future.

McCabe points out Goderich has lost money under the OMPF funding reductions and will be losing another $89,000 this year but the town believes it makes more sense to move forward and support AMO's effort than try to get the province to reverse its position.
