Monkton Lions Club Brings Library Ideas To Council

The Monkton Lions Club has some ideas about the future of the Monkton Branch of North Perth Public Library.

The Monkton Lions addressed the possible purchase of the Rustic Roots building in Monkton and transferring books into that site. The other idea was to move the branch to the Elma Logan Recreation Centre.

The current site needs numerous upgrades or repairs.

Hugh Crawford is the president of the Monkton Lions Club.

"We feel it (Rustic Roots) has the space to accommodate the current Monkton Library branch. It is a great building, a good location, and the accessibility issues could be addressed really easily."

Crawford says the Elma Logan Recreational Centre would suffice as a back up, but they prefer the Rustic Roots site because it's more spacious.

"The recreational complex is smaller, but there would be advantages, too. Accessibility is taken care. There are benefits to both, but we prefer the Rustic Roots site, because long term it better suits our needs."

The Rustic Roots building has been on the market nearly eight months and the Monkton Lions want council to try and quickly decide if they would want to partner in purchasing the site.

The Monkton Lions have $55,000 ready to commit to the purchase, which they value at $110,000.
