3rd Annual Battle For Mental Health Hockey Game A Huge Success

The 3rd annual Battle For Mental Health hockey game took place last night in Mount Forest. A packed arena took in the game between the Get In Touch For Hutch and Wes For Youth All Stars, and numerous guest speakers were in attendance. Among those were the founders of Get In Touch For Hutch and Wes For Youth, Myrna Hutchison and Yolanda Cameron, who both lost their sons to suicide as a result of mental health.

There were many Junior C players from the local teams involved in the game, and even some NCAA players from the local area as well who made the long trip home to be involved. Yolanda and Myrna were both very moved by the players donating their time to participate, as Hutchison says, “it truly touches our hearts for them to come here. They were all close to our boys and we know they’re still hurting but for them to come be a part of this and be together is awesome.”

The game was a huge success, with a packed Mount Forest District Sports complex on hand to see the Get In Touch For Hutch Squad edge the Wes For Youth team by a close 7-5 margin. Yolanda Cameron said that the event is so important “because it lets young men and women know it’s okay to reach out and show our emotions, and to ask for help if you need it. I think that’s the biggest thing with this, is knowing it’s okay to be yourself and to not be afraid to reach out.”
