Huron-Kinloss Mayor Invited To Paris Climate Change Conference

The upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference will have some local input.

Huron-Kinloss Mayor Mitch Twolan will be travelling to Paris early next month to take part in the conference in his role as the chair of the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence Cities Initiative.

Twolan says the invitation came as a surprise, but he calls it a great opportunity and an honour.

He says the UN is interested in hearing more about their cross-border organization.

"It kind of caught us off guard. Obviously what (the United Nations) are looking for is how do we work together as an organization, 118 municipalities, an international organization?  How are we dealing with our issues here in the United States and Canada?  There's going to be a lot of dialogue, and we are just still preparing what we as an organization are going to talk about," says Twolan.

Twolan adds he has also received an invitation from the mayor of Paris to attend a meeting at city hall with mayors from around the world.

The two-week climate change conference opens on November 30, and Twolan says he will be arriving in Paris on the morning of December 4 and staying for five days.
