Huron-Bruce Candidates Focus On TPP

The new Trans Pacific Partnership agreement dominated last night's all-candidates debate at the United Church in Goderich.

Huron-Bruce Conservative incumbent Ben Lobb told the crowd of over 300 that the TPP is an amazing opportunity for Canadian manufacturing and farming, and pointed out that the Prime Minister Stephen Harper had promised to protect supply management and he did that.

Liberal candidate Allan Thompson commented that the Liberals have always supported the need to be part of the Trans Pacific Partnership, but questioned the secrecy of the negotiations and suggested there is still a lot about the agreement that is not known.

NDP candidate Gerard Creces was critical of the fact that the negotiations proceeded during an election. He believes Harper failed to protect supply management and our auto sector.

Green Party candidate Jutta Splettstoesser also suggested supply management should not have been part of the agreement.

Tuesday night's debate was sponsored by the Goderich Chamber of Commerce.
