Knights Nip Petes 4-3 in Overtime

Evan Bouchard scored the overtime winner in the London Knights' 4-3 victory over the Peterborough Petes Friday at Budweiser Gardens.

The Knights move into a third-place tie with the Owen Sound Attack in the OHL Midwest Division standings thanks to the Attack's loss Friday in Guelph. Both teams have 30 points.

Alec Regula got the only goal of the first period, his third score of the year at 16:20. The Knights killed off two penalties in the period and had one unsuccessful power play.

The score was 1-0 Knights until almost the midway point of the middle period, when Peterborough's Logan DeNoble scored short-handed. Max Jones helped London regain the lead before the second intermission with a penalty shot goal.

Zach Gallant knotted things up for the Petes at 2-2 with a power play goal at 5:12 in the third period, though London's Robert Thomas put the Knights back in the lead almost four minutes later with his 19th goal of the season. Matthew Tims' first goal of the season for Peterborough was a doozy, scored just six seconds before the end of regulation to force the overtime period.

Bouchard's winner came at just 50 seconds into the extra frame.

Joseph Raaymakers bounced back from a dismal outing Thursday night against Niagara, stopping 30 out of the 33 shots he faced in goal. Dylan Wells had 27 saves in net for Peterborough.

The Knights welcome the Erie Otters on Sunday afternoon.
