Teddy Bears Fly in Knights’ 3-2 Overtime WinDecember 2, 2017 9:50pm
Robert Thomas scored the overtime winner on Teddy Bear Toss night.
The goal, at 33 seconds remaining in the overtime period, put the London Knights on top of the North Bay Battalion 3-2 Saturday.
The win also marks a milestone for Knights head coach Dale Hunter, who picked up his 700th coaching victory.
London gets two points for a total of 28 on the season. They currently sit in fourth place in the OHL Midwest Division standings.
The Battalion got on the board first as Brett McKenzie scored his eighth goal of the year at just over three and a half minutes into the first period. Cliff Pu scored the equalizer on the power play near the midway point of the frame, sending furry avalanche of teddy bears and stuffed animals onto the Budweiser Gardens ice.
Play resumed after a short delay to clear the ice of over 9,400 stuffed animals, then North Bay took a 2-1 lead before the break on a goal from Kyle Potts.
Alex Formenton tied the game up for the Knights on the power play at 6:08 in the third period. There was no further scoring on either side until Thomas’ overtime winner.
Joseph Raaymakers stopped 21 shots out of the 23 he faced in goal for London. Christian Propp collected 27 saves for the Battalion.
The Knights travel to Niagara Thursday night to take on the IceDogs.
