GOJHL Showcase Wrap Up - September 9, 2017

London-Middlesex junior B teams were busy Saturday at the 2017 GOJHL Showcase at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre in Brantford.

Jack Scanlan and Graham Brulotte each scored twice as the Stratford Warriors beat the St. Thomas Stars 9-2.

The two teams exchanged goals within the first eight minutes of the contest before Stratford scored four more in the first period, including Scanlan and Brulotte's first goals of the afternoon. Adam Keyes was the Stars' goal scorer in that frame.

Justin Badour got one back for St. Thomas but Scanlan and Brulotte struck again in the second period, making the score 7-2 in favour of the Warriors after 40 minutes of play. Dylan Lebold and Kaleb Pearson added two for Stratford in the final four minutes of regulation.

Anthony Hurtubise lasted just the first period for St. Thomas in goal and took the loss, Kodie Oude Vashaar worked the next two periods. Raun Badenhorst got the win between the pipes for Stratford.

The Stars will play Thorold Sunday while Startford faces Welland.

Matthew Giannini scored twice, including the game winner, as the Welland Jr. Canadiens beat the St. Marys Lincolns 4-3.

Welland scored three goals in the first period before the Lincolns broke the shutout at 1:46 in the second period, on a goal by Kenny Chisholm. The Jr. Canadiens got that goal back but St. Marys' Tanner Hertel scored before the second intermission for a 3-2 Welland score.

The Lincolns tied it up almost five minutes into the third period on a Josh Higgins goal, before Giannini's game-winner later in the period.

Tristan Lewis was the losing goalie for the Lincolns, facing 34 shots. Simon Wood knocked away 22 shots in net for Welland.

St. Marys takes on Guelph Sunday morning at 10:30.

Five straight goals was enough for the Strathroy Rockets to beat the host Brantford 99ers 5-4.

Brantford did open the scoring 21 seconds into the game with a Hunter Dubecki goal, but the Rockets took off after that. T.J. Harris and Spencer Allen scored twice for Strathroy while Greg Marks threw in a single score. The 99ers did try to mount a comeback with three unanswered goals of their own, from Max Racicot, Christian Polillo and Harlen VanWynsberghe.

Zach Weir was a winning goalie for Strathroy, with 46 saves out of 50 shots. Evan Reinhart notched 21 saves for Brantford.

The Rockets next face the Pelham Panthers at 4:30pm Sunday.

Kyle Fisher scored a hat trick as the Komoka Kings stopped the Buffalo Regals 8-0.

The Kings began their tenure in Komoka on a high note after moving there from Lambton Shores during the offseason.

Fisher scored his first two goals in the first period, and an Andrew Kim goal brought the Kings' first period lead to 3-0. Fisher completed his hat trick with the first goal of the second period.

Komoka's remaining goal-scorers in order were Matt Mellick, Kurt Watson, Wes Dobbin and Alex Cunningham. Buffalo was 0-for-8 on the power play.

Avery Hartwick stopped all 15 Regals shots for Komoka, who next face the Brampton Bombers Sunday at 1:30pm.
