Lightning Strike Back, Beat Moncton 125-121

The London Lightning roared back in the second half in Moncton and hung on to beat the Miracles 125-121 Sunday afternoon.

The Lightning spotted Moncton a lead at halftime, but turned on the offence and outscored the Miracles 40-24 in the third quarter, then fought off a strong Moncton challenge down the stretch to take the win.

London now has a 28-5 record and first place in the NBL Central Division, the best record in the league.

Royce White was clearly the player of the game in the contest, leading all scorers with 35 points, including 13-for-20 from the free-throw line.  He also was 11-for-22 from the field.  White also dominated defensively with 17 rebounds for a double-double, plus four assists.  He was able to come up with some key shots in the final minutes of regulation that held off the Miracles challenge.

Marcus Capers and Joel Friesen each had 18 points, while Marvin Phillips collected 14 points.

Melvin Johnson III led the Miracles with 26 points, including a 10-for-17 effort in field goals and five rebounds.  Brandan Kearney put 25 points through the hoop and led Moncton with nine rebounds.  He also made all but one of nine free-throw attempts..  Korie Lucious added 18 points, plus a team-leading ten assists and six successful free-throw chances.

The Lightning return to Budweiser Gardens Wednesday night for a game against the Saint John Riptide.
