Knights Beat Spitfires 5-2, Even Series

Max Jones scored twice in the last two minutes of regulation to seal the London Knights' 5-2 win over the Windsor Spitfires Sunday afternoon.

The win, in front of 8,670 fans at Budweiser Gardens, evens the best-of-seven first-round playoff series at one win apiece.

Jones' two goals came after Spitfires goaltender Michael DiPietro was pulled for an extra attacker. DiPietro finished the game with 30 saves.

Cliff Pu collected his first playoff goal of the season at just over the halfway point of the first period, putting London up 1-0 after the first stanza of play.  Windsor's Jeremiah Addison earned himself an early shower after getting a cross-check game misconduct in the second frame.  Olli Juolevi made Windsor pay and doubled the Knights lead at 8:09 with his second playoff goal of the series.  Windsor tied the game up before the second intermission with two goals of their own.  Aaron Luchuk scored his third playoff goal to cut the Knights lead in half.  Mikhail Sergachev tied the game up at 2-2 with a goal at 17:06.

Mitchell Stephens gave London the lead for good with a power play goal in the third period.  Jones scored his two empty-netters within the last 1:06 in the game.

Tyler Parsons stopped 29 of Windsor's 31 shots in goal for London.  Knights head coach Dale Hunter sent in backup goalie Tyler Johnson for the final 11 seconds of the game.  He faced no shots.

Game 3 of the series is Tuesday night at the WFCU Centre in Windsor.
