A London football teams has changed its name to honour the city's football history.

It’s a new season, a new league and a new name for a London football team.

Officials from the London Silverbacks have announced they’re changing the teams name to the London Lords, in honour of a historic London team that played in the city from the 1950′s to the 1970′s.

The amateur men’s team offers former Western Mustangs and London Beefeaters the chance to continue their football careers in London.

Team Owner Scott Knight says he’s happy to connect his team with the historic Lords name.

<audio controls preload>

The London Lords play the first home game of the season on June 8th at City Wide fields.

Knight says he thought it would have been interesting to host Lords games at Labatt Park, where the first Lords team played, but said the field is only meant for baseball now.

A full schedule of games is available HERE.

Last year, the London Lords were inducted into the London Sports Hall of Fame.

Here is a video the Hall produce on the history of the team.

Fire Department recommends against private use fireworks.

While the London Fire Department is cautioning residents against it, it’s a safe bet many in the city will be using backyard fireworks this Victoria Day.

Fire officials say residents could avoid the risk of burns or other injuries by attending public fireworks displays instead.

Manager of Municipal Law Enforcement Services for the city, Annette Drost, says there are a few precautions those who would rather put on their own show should take.

<audio controls preload>

Victoria Day and Canada Day are the only two days throughout the year the city allows fireworks to be discharged.

Anyone busted setting them off on other occasions could face a fine.
