Man critically injured in east-end shooting

A man is in critical condition after a brazen afternoon shooting at an east London Tim Hortons.

London police and EMS received the 911 call around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. When emergency crews arrived at the coffee shop at 2094 Dundas St., west of Veterans Memorial Parkway they found the injured man inside of the store.

He was rushed to hospital with life threatening injuries.

A vehicle believed to have been used in the incident was found a short distance away. At this point, police have not located the firearm used and no suspect information has been released.

"It is still very early in the investigation, but what we can say is that a number of officers are investigating," said Constable Sandasha Bough.

The Tim Hortons was cordoned off and half a dozen police cruisers were parked outside. Investigators with the police major crimes unit and the forensic identification unit were combing the area for evidence.

Police have not confirmed reports that the shooting happened inside the store. Several Tim Hortons employees were seen leaving, all of whom declined to comment.

“The safety of our guests is always important to us," said Tim Hortons spokesperson Jane Almeida in an emailed statement. "We have spoken to the restaurant owner of this location who has confirmed they are fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation by local authorities.”

The shooting is believed to have been a targeted attack and not a random incident, according to police.

"I don't know what is going on with this city. I have two kids and they have to grow up in this world and live in this city. It's getting to the point where nowhere feels safe," said Mike Preece, who rides his bike passed the shop on his way to and from work each day.

Two weeks ago, a man was shot outside of a strip club just metres away from the Tim Hortons location. An arrest warrant has been issued for Dominique Mossel, 26, in relation to that shooting.
