Drug Raid Yields A Mountain Of Stolen Goods

Six people are charged after St. Thomas Police conducted a drug raid which led to a stockpile of weapons.

The raid was the climax of an investigation that the St. Thomas Police Street Crimes Unit had been undertaking for several weeks after they suspected a high level of drug activity was taking place at a lower-level apartment on Horton St. near Celestine St.

Officers executed a search warrant on the location around noon Thursday. Four people, three of them residents of the apartment, were arrested.

Police seized 9.3 g of crystal methamphetamine with a street value of $930, along with scales, cash, cell phones, weapons and several replica firearms.  Officers also located a considerable amount of stolen property suspected to be taken from several vehicle and garage entries in the city over the last couple of months.

A 49-year-old man is charged with one count of trafficking crystal methamphetamine, one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking crystal meth, one count of possession of stolen property, one count of possession of a prohibited weapon-switch blade and one count of breach of probation. He is being held for a court appearance.

A 46-year-old man is charged with one count of possession of crystal meth and one count of breach of conditions. A 42-year-old woman is charged with possession of crystal meth and one count of possession of stolen identification. Both these suspects were released with promises to appear in court. A 43-year-old woman arrested at the apartment was not charged, and she was released.

Police say shortly before the warrant was executed, they arrested a 32-year-old man after he was seen purchasing drugs at the home. He has been charged with one count of possession of crystal meth and one count of breach of conditions.

The arrests did not stop there, however. While officers began to catalogue the stolen goods they seized, a couple showed up at the house in a stolen vehicle. Police say they believed they were there to buy drugs and were not aware of the existing police presence. Officers determined that the blue Ford Explorer they were driving was reported stolen in London several hours before, and by the time it arrived in St. Thomas, it was already loaded with stolen goods.

The 31-year-old female driver is charged one count of driving while impaired, one count of possession of stolen property over $5000 and two counts of breach of conditions.

The 33-year-old male passenger is charged two counts of possession of stolen property, one count of morphine possession, one count of oxycodone possession, one count of carrying a concealed weapon, and three counts of breach of conditions.  Both parties were held in custody for a court appearance.
