UPDATE: Hwy. 401 Closed Until Sunday Morning

There will be some major delays for anyone driving on Hwy. 401, west of London Saturday night.

All eastbound and westbound lanes of the highway between Colonel Talbot Rd. and Iona Rd. will be closed through the overnight hours. The closure is to allow for bridge girders to be installed on the Mill Rd. underpass.

The closures were expected to begin at 8pm Saturday, but OPP Constable Max Gomez confirmed to BlackburnNews.com shortly after 9pm that the lane closures had begun.

Detours are in effect. OPP is rerouting traffic south, at Colonel Talbot Rd. and Iona Rd., towards Talbot Line (Hwy. 3). There will be no access to the 401 from Union Rd.

"Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and pack extra patience. Please stay focused on the road and changing traffic conditions," said Gomez.

The highway will reopen at 8am on Sunday.
