A pipe burst caused $5-million in damages and forced some downtown residents into hotels Wednesday night.
Officials with London's fire department said a broken sprinkler pipe burst above the 28th floor of the Renaissance Apartment building on King St. across from Budweiser Gardens. The resulting water caused extensive damage from the 24th to the 28th floors and rendered the elevators inoperable.
The water flowing down the stairwells caused issues for firefighters who had to use the stairs because the elevators weren't working.
No one was hurt but the elevators will be out of service for up to 36 hours.
Tenants who were not able to get back into their units were offered hotel rooms.
