3 Tons Of Animal Carcasses Spill Onto Road During Crash

Police are investigating after a single-vehicle transport truck rollover in Norfolk County sent 3 tons of animal remains spilling out onto the road.

The Ontario Provincial Police said early Tuesday afternoon, the truck was heading west on St. John's Rd. E when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which then entered a ditch and rolled onto its side.

"We have approximately 3 tons of animal carcasses along the roadway -- it's quite the debris field," said Constable Ed Sanchuk in a video posted by the OPP. "We're bringing in a heavy front-end loader to load the carcasses up as quickly as possible."

The driver of the transport truck, a 36-year-old man, has been taken to hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Sanchuk said it is still early in the investigation and officers still need to speak with the driver to determine what caused the crash.

St Johns Rd. E between Cockshutt Rd. and Marburg Rd. remains closed as a result of the crash.
